Abstract
This study¡¯s purpose was to present necessary data about sex education for visually impaired middle school students by identifying variables such as knowledge, attitude, demands of sex education, and their relationships. For the study, 124 male and female students were interviewed for four weeks from June 10, 2002 to July 10, 2002 to obtain basic data about sex education. Testing tools for measuring sex knowledge and attitude based on the SKAT developed by Lief and Reed (1973), the demand for sex education based on the tool developed by Lee Hwa-ja (1999) were modified and complemented by consulting with a nursing professor and two experts of special education. The collected data were analysed by medians, standard deviation, t-test, the ANOVA, the Pearson Correlat~on, and the Stepwise Multiple Regression through the SPSS win program. The results were presented as follows: 1. The average point of sex knowledge , sex attitude and sex education demand of each subject was 29.93 (on the basis of 38), 87.25 (on the basis of 110) and 64.71 (on the basis of 80) . 2. There was a significant difference in sex knowledge such as care about health (F=16.077, p=.000), experience of sex education (F3.249, P=.001) and living standards(F=5.561, p.005) according to general characteristics. 3. As for sex attitude according to general characteristics, there was a significant difference in care about health (F=28.825,p=.004), experiences of sex education (F2.976, p=.006), living standards (F=5.326, p=.006), and relationship between parents (F=2.830, p=.006). 4. As for the demand of sex education according to general characteristics of each subject, there was a significant difference in care about health (F=7.301, p=.Ol), and living standards (F=4.490, p=.013). 5. There was a high degree of significant static correlation between sex knowledge and attitude(r-595, p=.000) and a low degree of significant static correlation between sex knowledge and demand for sex education (r=296, p=.001). And there was a relatively high degree of significant static correlation between sex attitude and demand of sex education (r ,404, p=.¡¯)O(u 6. Sex knowledge as a factor that influences sex attitude of each subject accounted for 35.4% of sex attitude, and if care about health is included, it accounted for 47.1% of sex attitude.
